This is an another lovely HUGE Kokeshi doll created by kokeshi artist "Keimi Niiyama. Mr. Keimi Niiyama's grandfather and his father were kokeshi artists as well and they had a souvenir shop that sells Japanese traditional Handmade souvenirs. So Mr. Keimi Niiyama was working with his father and making wooden toys but not kokeshi dolls in his young age. Then, he went to Pacific War as one of the Imperial Japanese Army. After the war ends, he started making Kokeshi dolls so all his kokeshi dolls are made from year 1946 to 2003 until his death. He was very talented doll artist and he kept his father's significant styles so his kokeshi dolls are very classic. At this point, I have two kokeshi dolls made by him and you might notice that this kokeshi doll has extra signature written on the bottom part of this doll but not on the other doll. Please see the photo shown signature, the right part is artist first name "Keimi" and on the left side its written " Kota-gata" which means "Kota Style". Kota is the first name of Mr. Kobayashi's grandfather " Kota Sato". In 1961, Mr.Koyashi made huge kokeshi dolls with similar styles as his grandfather's kokeshi dolls so he included "Kota-gata" which means "Kota Style" right next to his own name honoring his grandfather. Thats why this kokeshi doll which was created in 1961 has extra letters until the other kokeshi dolls created in other years. This Kokeshi doll has very lovely face ..all of Mr.Kobayashi's kokeshi dolls have very pretty face with cute little lips and charming smiley eyes. You will see two curly lines besides hairs which are actually its ears...which is very unique because usually kokeshi artist don't include ears that often. The color of the body part is not a great condition. I believe it originally had stripes of red and blue-ish green but now you barely see blue-ish it looks like it only has red color. But again the paintings of face part is pretty great condition. This doll is about 58 years old. Since its a very old doll, you will see signs of age such a wood aging, paint fading, and minor scratches so be aware.

The material of this Kokeshi doll is Mono Maple( also referred as Acer pictum subsp. mono ). Mono Maple wood will be cut and polished and painted so this Kokeshi doll was created from the scratch by the artist so Kokeshi doll is not just a doll but its an art by all means. I really hope you treasure this gorgeous kokeshi doll.
